Competition season is underway! To be honest, I have a love/hate relationships with dance competitions. I think they can be beneficial for young dancers and a great experience. Unfortunately the opposite is also true. Here are my tips for a positive competition experience!
Have perspective. All dance competitions are different. Judging is different. Awards are different. The goal should be to gain experience performing on stage and striving to do better than the last time you performed.
Be supportive. The dance world is a small one yet there is room for everyone. Support everyone that walks on that stage.
Be prepared. Competitions can be hectic. Being prepared will set you up for a positive day.
Be flexible. And no, I am not talking about being physically flexible but that helps too. Be ready for changes in the schedule and go with the flow.
Be kind. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Let's just all be kind ok?
Have fun! Dance is fun y'all!
I hope everyone has a great competition season! Follow or Tag Prosody Performance Arts on your socials.
I would love to see your dances and what you are all working on!
Happy Dancing!
