We love dance. We need to move. However, sometimes we come across seasons where our bodies don't move the way we want them to and it can be frustruating. I have felt this way when I exerienced pregnancy and birth with each of my five children. I have dealt with injury and knee surgeries. I am currently experiencing this as I can't move the way I want to due to a minor medical procedure. As dancers it is hard to come to terms with these seasons as we age and our bodies experience mortality. It is even more frustrating as we attempt to teach and choreograph and do everything this dance life requires. If you are currently in one if these frustrating seasons, here is a reminder to give yourself some grace and love. Take some time to take care of yourself and your body. Here are a few tips and reminders:
Seek professional and medical help if needed. As dancers we tend to push through injury as the show must go on! Take care of yourslef by seeking help when needed.
Be patient with yourself. Give yourself time to heal and learn how to move and dance with your current body.
Yoga. You can do a full 60 minute class or a 5 minute restoritive practice. Spending time with your body is a great way to take care of yourself.
Take a bath or hot shower. I find that spending time in the water is a great way for me to connect with my body.
Practice self love and meditation. Even a short meditation can help you find your center and connect with your body.
This is your reminder to take care of yourself.
